The Delhi Police is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative to modernize its operations by having senior officers of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) rank adopt 100 police stations. This plan, directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focuses on utilizing AI-based predictive policing to identify crime hotspots and optimize patrol deployment. The initiative will also enhance the tracking of missing children and improve responses to cybercrime. Key elements include the installation of CCTV cameras with facial recognition, integration of databases like the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), and the use of drones for surveillance during large gatherings. Furthermore, the police aim to strengthen community ties through active engagement with local committees and by promoting citizen-facing mobile applications for crime reporting. Training for officers will cover areas such as cybercrime and counter-terrorism, while efforts to improve infrastructure will see police stations transformed into smart facilities.
