In a significant development for Pune, Maharashtra, the Indian government has sanctioned ₹1,290 crore for two crucial civic infrastructure projects. Of this amount, ₹890 crore is earmarked for a water supply initiative that will benefit 12 villages, while ₹400 crore is allocated for flood control measures throughout the city. The approval was granted on May 11 during a meeting led by the secretary of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram presented the projects, which are expected to bolster the city's urban infrastructure. The water supply project includes the construction of a 200 MLD water treatment plant, a 71 km transmission pipeline, and a 390 km distribution network, aiming to provide clean drinking water to 7.78 lakh residents until 2052. Meanwhile, the flood control project will address 335 flood-prone locations to enhance public safety and health during the monsoon season. These initiatives are part of Pune's long-term development strategy to create a sustainable urban environment.
