India is set to receive its first shipment of crude oil from Iran in seven years after the United States temporarily lifted sanctions on Iranian oil to alleviate global supply shortages. The shipment, purchased by the state-run Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), is currently on the Curacao-flagged very large crude carrier Jaya, which is expected to arrive on India's east coast later this week. This marks a pivotal change in India's energy sourcing, as imports of Iranian crude had ceased following sanctions imposed in 2019. Additionally, two Indian-flagged vessels carrying over 60,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have safely transited the Strait of Hormuz and are also expected to reach India soon. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is actively monitoring shipping movements and ensuring the safety of Indian vessels in the region, with no reported incidents involving Indian-flagged ships in the last 24 hours.

The arrival of Iranian crude oil could stabilize India's oil supply and potentially lower prices for consumers. Additionally, the ongoing LPG shipments ensure a steady supply of essential fuel for households and industries.
