In Ludhiana, Punjab, police arrested Mani Kumar, a resident of Sunet village, for allegedly attempting to extort ₹5 lakh (approximately $6,000 USD) from a local family. The situation escalated when Kumar threatened to harm the family's nine-year-old son if the money was not paid. The victim, Zeenat Begum, reported that her husband, Iqbal Singh, who works in Saudi Arabia, received a threatening call on April 18 demanding the money. On April 20, while Zeenat and her son were away visiting relatives, Kumar and his accomplices reportedly broke into their home, stealing ₹20,000 (around $240 USD) in cash, a mobile phone, two LPG cylinders, and important documents. They then locked the house again and sent photos to Singh, reiterating their threats. Investigating officer ASI Jaswinder Singh confirmed Kumar's criminal history and stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend his associates.
