Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has unveiled an ambitious plan to expand the Delhi Metro under Phase V(b), which will add 97 kilometers across seven corridors and 65 stations. This project aims to improve connectivity in outer areas of Delhi, linking regions like Najafgarh, Narela, and Kishangarh to the existing metro network. The total estimated cost of the expansion is ₹48,204.56 crore (approximately $5.8 billion USD), with the first six corridors accounting for ₹43,335 crore and the seventh at ₹4,869.56 crore. The corridors will connect key locations, including Central Secretariat, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and various densely populated neighborhoods, promoting a more sustainable mode of transport. The Dhansa Bus Stand to Nangloi corridor will be the first to be developed, featuring a fully elevated stretch of 11.9 km with nine stations. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve last-mile connectivity, contributing to balanced urban development across the city. Priority corridors are set to be completed by 2029, while the remaining will be developed in phases thereafter.
