The Delhi government has approved a significant expansion of the Delhi Metro network, which includes over 97 kilometers of new lines and 67 stations across seven corridors. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the project, estimated to cost ₹48,204.56 crore (approximately $5.8 billion USD), is designed to connect outer and developing areas of the city, such as Najafgarh and Narela, with central Delhi. The government has prioritized four corridors for fast-tracked implementation, aiming for completion by 2029. These corridors will feature a mix of elevated and underground sections, enhancing public transport access in underserved regions. The detailed project report has been submitted to the Central government for approval, and work will commence once financial approval is secured from both the Centre and Delhi. Overall, the expansion is expected to significantly improve last-mile connectivity and strengthen the Metro's role as a key transport mode for daily commuters in Delhi.
