On May 4, 2023, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) launched a comprehensive public survey to analyze the travel patterns of residents in New Delhi. This initiative aims to gather detailed information about commuters' travel habits, including the modes of transport used, timings, and types of passes, such as the Pink Saheli Smart Card and student passes. The survey also addresses household vehicle ownership, including bicycles, motorcycles, and cars, and seeks feedback on issues faced during bus travel, such as bus frequency and reliability. This survey is part of a broader route rationalisation effort announced by Transport Minister Pankaj Singh earlier this year. In line with improving public transport, the DTC is phasing out its 15-year-old CNG low-floor buses in favor of approximately 4,538 electric buses within a total fleet of 6,300 buses. The study is being conducted in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation to ensure a data-driven redesign of the bus network, enhancing accessibility and service quality.
