Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced measures to combat the extreme heat affecting the city. As part of the Heat Wave Action Plan, cold drinking water will be supplied in all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses through cold boxes. Gupta emphasized that the labour department has instructed employers to provide rest breaks for workers from 1 PM to 4 PM, ensuring they do not work under direct sunlight during these hours. Additionally, water counters will be installed near bus shelters, offering cold drinking water and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) free of charge. Schools are also directed to ensure that students have access to drinking water and ORS before heading home. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Public Works Department (PWD) have been tasked with protecting sanitation and construction workers, halting work during peak heat hours. Emergency services, including the fire department, are on standby to respond quickly to incidents and prevent fires.
