This crisis has disrupted global oil and gas markets, causing shortages and price hikes. In response, Modi urged citizens to adopt responsible consumption as a form of 'modern patriotism' to protect the country's economic interests. Following this appeal, Fadnavis announced a 50% reduction in the number of vehicles in ministerial convoys and instructed the Chief Secretary to devise a comprehensive fuel-saving plan for the upcoming cabinet meeting on May 14. Measures include expanding the use of electric vehicles, increasing online meetings to cut travel costs, and reassessing the necessity of foreign trips. Senior officials will now be required to utilize public transport, such as local trains and buses, to further reduce discretionary spending. This initiative is echoed in other states, with Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat opting for train travel and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary reducing his vehicle usage.
