Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has made a definitive statement regarding school uniforms, asserting that no new practices will be allowed in educational institutions across the state. During a press conference in Mysuru on May 14, he clarified that while students from primary to class 12 are permitted to wear traditional and faith-based symbols such as janivara, Shiva dhara, rudraksh, and hijabs, new items like saffron shawls will not be accepted. Siddaramaiah emphasized that only turbans already in practice would be allowed. He also addressed criticisms from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the hijab policy. On other national matters, he commented on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's austerity measures, labeling them as temporary, and expressed dissatisfaction with the central government's management of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), highlighting the successful conduct of the Common Entrance Test (CET) by the state. Furthermore, he mentioned intentions to reconstitute the state ministry and reiterated his willingness to meet with party leaders in Delhi when invited.
