The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched Phase III of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which will take place across 16 states and three Union Territories. This initiative aims to ensure that only eligible voters are registered while removing ineligible names from the electoral rolls. Over 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits to verify the credentials of nearly 36.73 crore electors. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has encouraged voters to participate actively in this process. Notably, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh have been excluded from this phase due to operational difficulties and weather-related challenges, particularly in high-altitude areas. The ECI plans to announce a separate schedule for these regions after assessing the completion of the Census Phase II. This revision exercise is part of the ECI's ongoing efforts to update and purify electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections, utilizing the assistance of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by various political parties to facilitate the verification process.
