The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two individuals, Mashkoor Ahmed, a government school teacher, and Maneer Ahmed, for allegedly providing logistical support to Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district. The police reported that these operatives facilitated food, shelter, and resources for top commander Saifullah Balochi and two other Pakistani terrorists, who were killed in a gunfight with security forces on February 22. The area has been a known refuge for terrorists due to its difficult terrain and local sympathizers. Kishtwar's senior superintendent of police, Naresh Singh, confirmed the arrests as part of a broader operation against anti-national elements. The police have filed charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Arms Act. Mashkoor Ahmed, who has been a teacher since 2004, is expected to have his services terminated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The crackdown follows the discovery of a well-stocked hideout in Singhpora, indicating a significant support network for insurgents.
