On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Iqbal Singh, also known as Shera, at Delhi airport following his extradition from Portugal. Singh, who had been absconding since 2020, is linked to a significant Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) narco-terror financing case. The NIA described the extradition as a major breakthrough in combating narco-terrorism and cross-border terror networks supported by Pakistan. Singh was identified as a key conspirator in smuggling heroin from Pakistan into India and was responsible for routing drug proceeds to fund terror activities. He had formed a gang to facilitate narcotics trafficking and maintain connections with HM operatives in Pakistan. The case began with the arrest of Hilal Ahmed Shergojri, a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen associate, leading to the recovery of ₹61 lakh (approximately $73,000 USD) in drug proceeds. The NIA is continuing its investigation into the broader network.
