India has reacted strongly to an incident on April 18, when the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran fired upon two Indian-flagged cargo vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the Indian government summoned the Iranian Ambassador, expressing serious concerns over the safety of its vessels. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized the need for safeguarding Indian ships operating in the region. Although the vessels did not sustain major damage, the incident raised alarms as 14 Indian-flagged vessels remain anchored in the Strait, including three large oil tankers and one LPG carrier. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that India is in constant contact with Iranian authorities to ensure the safe passage of its ships. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the captains of three vessels, including two Indian ships, were attacked, with one oil tanker approached by Iranian military gunboats that opened fire without warning. Additionally, another Indian vessel was reportedly hit by an unidentified projectile near Oman, further heightening concerns over navigational safety in this critical shipping corridor.
