On April 18, two Indian-flagged cargo vessels were fired upon by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, an incident that has prompted serious diplomatic action from New Delhi. The Iranian Ambassador to India was summoned, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri expressed India's deep concerns regarding the safety of its ships and citizens in Iran. Fortunately, the Indian vessels did not sustain major damage, although glass panes were shattered. Currently, 14 Indian-flagged vessels remain anchored in the Strait of Hormuz, including three large oil tankers and one large LPG tanker. The Indian government is in constant communication with Iranian authorities to ensure the safe passage of its ships. Since the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East on February 28, India has successfully evacuated 10 Indian-flagged LPG and oil tankers from the region. The situation remains sensitive as tensions continue to rise in the area.
