The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a 10% rebate on house tax for households utilizing solar energy, a decision made during its budget session. This initiative aims to promote energy conservation, reduce urban pollution, and provide relief during extreme summer heat. Mayor Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani emphasized the importance of encouraging sustainable practices, aligning the decision with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's national climate action and renewable energy initiatives. While concerns were raised about the potential financial impact of the rebate on the PMC's revenue, the mayor noted that the long-term environmental and public health benefits outweigh the relatively minor revenue loss. Additionally, the PMC has revised the fee for issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for commercial buildings, increasing it by ₹11 per square metre to a total of ₹105 per square metre, while the fee for residential buildings remains unchanged at ₹84 per square metre.
