According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), large parts of northern and eastern India are expected to experience rainfall this week, contributing to a cooler summer season. The IMD reports that this summer is the 18th coolest since 1951, with an average maximum temperature of 33.08°C from March 1 to May 10, which is 0.51°C below the average for the same period from 1981 to 2010. If the first 15 days of March are excluded, the average temperature rises slightly to 33.31°C, making it the eighth coolest summer on record. However, only about 44% of the country has seen temperatures at least 0.5°C cooler than normal, with many central and western regions remaining warmer than average. Rainfall plays a significant role in these temperature trends, with regions receiving more rain generally experiencing cooler temperatures.
