The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which will affect 367 million individuals across 16 states and 3 Union Territories. This initiative aims to ensure that only eligible voters are included in the electoral rolls, following significant controversies in previous phases, particularly the disenfranchisement of 2.71 million voters in West Bengal. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar urged voters to participate actively in this process. Notably, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh are excluded from this phase due to ongoing census operations and adverse weather conditions. The SIR in Delhi is set to commence on June 30, with draft rolls released on August 5 and final rolls on October 7. The ECI has deployed over 394,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to conduct house-to-house visits, supported by 342,000 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from political parties to ensure transparency. Maharashtra leads in BLO deployment, covering 98.6 million electors.
