A massive fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in the Hi-Tech Castle Society, a 13-storey residential building located in Sector 17 of Ulwe, Navi Mumbai, India. The fire ignited around 3:30 PM in the ground-floor meter room and quickly spread through the building's electrical duct system, leading to the evacuation of approximately 30 residents. Firefighters faced significant challenges as thick smoke filled the building, making visibility nearly impossible and complicating rescue efforts. They successfully evacuated pets, including four cats and five dogs, trapped inside locked flats. Ulwe Fire Station Officer Pratik Shinde reported that flames were visible on multiple floors, and the building was under a smoke lock. Fire personnel disconnected the power supply before entering the building with breathing apparatus to combat the flames. Additional support was called from nearby fire stations as the fire proved difficult to control. Rescue operations concluded by 4:30 PM, with cooling operations continuing for an additional 30 minutes. A preliminary investigation suggests that a suspected short circuit in the electrical system may have caused the fire.
