The implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has led to a surge of foreign universities establishing campuses in India, resulting in an anticipated opening of over 400 faculty positions in the next 2-3 years. According to Sahil Gupta, a partner at Deloitte India, a total of 15 foreign university licenses have been issued by the University Grants Commission, with additional approvals for five more universities in GIFT City, Gujarat. Notable institutions setting up campuses include Deakin University, University of Wollongong, and University of York, among others. This expansion not only creates job opportunities for Indian academics but also allows those currently abroad to return home, especially in light of geopolitical tensions affecting their positions. Lindsay Oades, provost at the University of York-Mumbai, stated that the university is actively recruiting talent from both India and overseas, aiming to foster a campus environment that reflects global educational standards. The hiring process will primarily focus on Indian-origin faculty, with many universities looking to appoint senior leadership from their home campuses.
