Brian Latwis, the Superintendent of Barnegat Township School District in New Jersey, has successfully completed the AASA National Superintendent Certification Program as part of the East Cohort. This two-year program, run by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, is designed to equip superintendents with the skills necessary to support student success. Latwis engaged with approximately 30 superintendents from across the United States, participating in four in-person conferences, attending virtual meetings bi-monthly, and completing a capstone project addressing real-world challenges within his district. The program covered essential areas of leadership, including ethics, communication strategies, and community engagement, while emphasizing the importance of building a shared vision for student achievement. Latwis expressed his commitment to applying the strategies learned to further enhance the culture and communication within the Barnegat Township School District, focusing on student-centered decision-making. His experience also provided valuable insights into the common challenges faced by superintendents nationwide, reinforcing the need for collaboration in addressing these issues.
