The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education is set to pilot a digital evaluation system for board exam answer sheets during the upcoming supplementary exams, expected to commence in mid-June. This initiative will involve scanning answer sheets and using on-screen marking software for evaluation, similar to a model recently adopted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for Class 12 exams. A senior education official indicated that the supplementary exams, which have fewer students, provide an ideal environment for this trial. Mathematics is being considered as the subject for the pilot due to its structured, step-based assessment. A private agency will handle the scanning of answer sheets at the district level, with the digitally scanned copies uploaded to evaluation software at designated centers, including educational institutions with large computer labs. This pilot aims to identify potential improvements before a wider rollout of the digital evaluation system.
