After extensive discussions among drivers, team principals, and regulators, Formula 1 has introduced a series of adjustments to its 2026 regulations aimed at addressing concerns raised during the first three races of the season. The changes focus on enhancing the qualifying experience, minimizing risks of collisions, and improving performance in wet conditions. Key modifications include a reduction in maximum energy recovery during qualifying from 8MJ to 7MJ, which aims to lessen 'unnatural' driving practices. Additionally, the power available through the Boost feature during races is now capped at 150kW, intended to reduce sudden performance differentials that can lead to accidents. A new low power start detection system will also be implemented to ensure safer race starts by automatically deploying electrical power if a car's acceleration is below a certain threshold. These changes will be in effect for the Miami Grand Prix on May 3, pending approval from the FIA's World Motor Sport Council. While the adjustments are designed to improve safety and racing quality, their effectiveness will be evaluated over the coming races.
