Tamil Nadu is preparing for its elections on April 23, with the Election Commission announcing extensive arrangements to ensure a smooth voting process for over 5.67 crore voters. Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik highlighted the logistical readiness, with 75,064 polling stations established across 33,133 centres, staffed by more than 3 lakh polling personnel. Security is a top priority, with 8,300 police personnel deployed to maintain law and order. Authorities have identified 3,025 locations as sensitive and set up four levels of control rooms to monitor the election process.
In an effort to enhance voter experience, 249 model polling stations have been created, including those managed by women and persons with disabilities. The election is also marked by a crackdown on electoral malpractice, with record seizures of ₹1,262 crore reported. The political landscape features a five-cornered contest, with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led by Chief Minister MK Stalin seeking re-election against the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and other parties. Counting of votes will take place at 62 centres across the state after polling concludes.
