The Election Commission of India (ECI) has reported significant seizures exceeding ₹1,000 crore (approximately $120 million USD) in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal as part of its efforts to ensure fair elections for the upcoming 2026 general elections. The ECI's intensified measures include deploying 5,011 Flying Squad Teams and 5,363 Static Surveillance Teams to monitor election-related activities. Tamil Nadu recorded the highest seizures at ₹599.24 crore, while West Bengal followed with ₹472.89 crore. Notably, Tamil Nadu saw cash seizures amounting to ₹100 crore, and West Bengal confiscated nearly 3.9 million litres of liquor. The ECI is also utilizing technology to enhance public participation through the 'C-Vigil' mobile application, allowing citizens to report violations directly. These comprehensive measures reflect the ECI's commitment to conducting elections free from the influence of money and muscle power.
