The Delhi government is finalizing a plan to transition property registration to a fully paperless and faceless online experience. This initiative will allow citizens to upload necessary documents, pay stamp duties, and verify identities from home, aligning Delhi with states like Haryana and Tamil Nadu that have already adopted digital property processing. The new system aims to eliminate the weeks of delays caused by manual verification and the physical movement of files. A significant aspect of this transformation is the upgrade of the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS), which will include automated checks to screen for disputed properties and legal encumbrances. By integrating this system with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), sub-registrars will have instant access to property status, reducing the potential for corruption. Additionally, the government plans to implement Aadhaar-based authentication combined with video verification, allowing identity confirmation through secure video links, thus making the entire transaction process completely digital. This initiative, initially proposed in April 2025, is now being pushed forward to enhance convenience and transparency in property transactions.
