Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to integrate 'spiritual tourism' into the redevelopment of ghats along the Yamuna River. During a recent meeting, Sandhu emphasized the need to refine the restoration plan by expanding green spaces and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local residents. This initiative follows a visit to the Yamuna Bazar area, where Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta discussed eco-friendly development from Palla to Kalindi Kunj. The DDA is currently executing 11 projects that cover approximately 1,660 hectares as part of the Yamuna floodplain rejuvenation plan. Additionally, robust flood mitigation measures are crucial, as the low-lying Yamuna Bazar area is prone to waterlogging during monsoons, affecting traffic and local infrastructure. The aim is to create a sustainable and vibrant public space along the river, similar to the restored Vasudev Ghat and other ghats.
