The Andhra Pradesh government has removed 51 doctors from teaching hospitals due to prolonged absences from their duties. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced that the dismissed doctors include 41 Assistant Professors, eight Associate Professors, and two tutors. This action was taken in accordance with the Andhra Pradesh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964, which stipulates that prolonged absence is considered resignation. The government issued show-cause notices to the doctors, but received no responses. Reports suggest that many of the absent doctors were engaged in other businesses. Among the dismissed, one Associate Professor from Andhra Medical College had been absent since February 7, 2020, and one tutor had not reported for duty in seven years. Additionally, five Professors faced similar action, with two resuming duties after receiving notices. The government has also issued memos to 44 more teaching staffers who have been absent for less than a year.
