The Delhi government has updated the implementation guidelines of the Delhi Arogya Kosh (DAK) scheme to enhance healthcare access for economically weaker sections (EWS). The revised directives, issued by the Directorate General of Health Services, mandate that hospitals assess the availability of free EWS beds in private hospitals before referring patients for planned surgeries or treatments. Additionally, referrals for imaging services will only be allowed if the necessary facilities are unavailable in government hospitals or cannot be provided within a three-day timeframe. Another significant change requires patients to submit a self-declaration regarding their existing medical coverage to avoid duplication of benefits and improve coordination among healthcare schemes. Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasized that these measures aim to ensure efficient and transparent use of healthcare resources while maintaining uninterrupted access to treatment for deserving patients. The government has directed strict compliance with the new framework, warning that non-compliance will be taken seriously.
