The Dahisar river in Mumbai is set to receive a significant makeover similar to the Sabarmati riverfront project, as part of a rejuvenation and beautification initiative. Local MP and Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, announced that the project will cover 4.5 km on both sides of the river, introducing features such as lighting, boating facilities, and eco-tourism developments. To maintain a consistent water flow throughout the year, seven rainwater harvesting facilities will be established in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, where the river originates. The project, initially conceptualized in 2014, has a budget of ₹246 crore (approximately $30 million USD) and includes the commissioning of two fully automated sewage treatment plants with a combined capacity of 6.5 million litres per day. The first phase of the project is nearly complete, with 99% of the work finished, although some tasks remain pending due to encroachments. Goyal also urged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to consider dredging the river to prevent flooding.
