The Punjab Police have adopted an advanced voice recognition system under the Punjab Artificial Intelligence System (PAIS) to tackle overseas gangster networks that mislead local youth into illegal activities. This system includes a voice bank of over 84,000 samples from known criminals and integrates a comprehensive database of over 390,000 offenders, detailing gang affiliations and enabling phonetic searches. Promod Ban, the additional director general of police for the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), emphasized that this technology allows for swift identification of criminals, enhancing their ability to act decisively against threats. Many notorious gangsters linked to Punjab are reportedly operating from countries like Canada, the United States, and Italy, engaging in remote-controlled extortion through encrypted communication. The PAIS initiative signifies a shift from reactive to predictive policing, enabling law enforcement to track conversations and intervene before crimes occur, ultimately aiming to dismantle entire criminal networks rather than merely arrest individuals.
