The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has shifted two bus stops along the Swargate-Katraj bus rapid transit system (BRTS) in Pune, India, to accommodate ongoing construction for the underground metro line. This construction is currently in its initial stages on the busy Satara Road, leading to barricaded footpaths and parts of the BRTS corridor, which has caused significant inconvenience for commuters and increased traffic congestion. Maha-Metro officials explained that the surface work is essential for the construction of underground stations and related infrastructure. Public relations officer Chandrashekhar Tambvekar noted that traffic will be redirected on one side of the BRT corridor after leveling work is completed. The temporary Natu Baug bus stop has been moved to the footpath, requiring commuters to wait on the roadside instead of the median-side BRT platform. BRTS buses will not operate through their dedicated corridor on certain stretches until the metro work is completed, forcing them to share road space with regular traffic. The Swargate-Katraj underground metro extension is a key phase of Pune Metro's expansion plan and is expected to enhance connectivity in the southern parts of the city upon completion.
