The Thane Internal Ring Metro project has officially commenced construction, marking a significant effort to alleviate traffic congestion in Thane, Maharashtra. This 29-kilometre metro corridor, funded by both the Central and Maharashtra governments, aims to improve daily commuting for residents. The initial phase is being developed along the heavily trafficked Ghodbunder route, addressing the increasing pressure on the city's road network due to rapid urban expansion. The project will feature 22 stations strategically located to connect key residential and commercial hubs, including Raila Devi, Wagle Chowk, and Thane Junction. Designed to integrate seamlessly with existing transport systems, the metro will link to Mumbai Metro lines and local bus services, promoting a shift away from private vehicle use. Construction began in April 2023, with a target completion date set for 2029, promising a faster and more efficient commuting option for Thane's residents.
