A 32-year-old software engineer from Nanded City, Maharashtra, India, fell victim to a matrimonial scam, losing ₹21 lakh (roughly $25,000 USD) to a man she met online. The accused, Gorkhanath Gavandkar, a resident of Raigad district, established a close relationship with the victim, claiming he was in financial distress. Over time, he convinced her to transfer significant sums of money. When she demanded her money back, Gavandkar arranged a meeting at a hotel on Sinhgad Road, where he handed her a bag supposedly containing ₹50 lakh. However, upon opening the bag, she found it filled with fake currency notes. Realizing she had been deceived, the victim promptly reported the incident to the Sinhgad Road police, leading to Gavandkar's arrest. The police have filed charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are continuing their investigation.
