As summer approaches, a survey commissioned by food brand Unearthed reveals a significant shift in British dining habits. Traditional cold dishes like potato salad, coleslaw, and egg mayo are being replaced by Mediterranean-inspired options such as Spanish ham, olives, and whipped feta. The survey, which included 2,000 respondents, found that 83% believe the classic British 'picky tea' has undergone a Mediterranean makeover, with 79% noting a move away from processed foods. Notably, 62% of Gen Z, born between 1997 and 2012, are now eating later in the evening, a trend reflecting the dining customs of Spain and Italy. Popular new choices for summer spreads include olives (53%), flatbreads, and houmous, with Serrano ham (22%), falafel (20%), and frittata (17%) also gaining traction. Spanish chef Omar Allibhoy commented on this evolution, highlighting the public's demand for fresher, lighter meals that are easy to prepare during hot weather.
