On May 12, 2026, a Delhi court recorded the testimony of members from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) regarding allegations of sexual harassment made by women wrestlers against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and ex-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament. The court, led by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar at Rouse Avenue Court, directed the Investigating Officer to present further testimony on May 15 and 19. The allegations against Singh, which include claims from renowned wrestlers like Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia, date back to incidents occurring between 2016 and 2019 at various locations, including the WFI office and Singh's official residence. The protests by the wrestlers in New Delhi in 2023 led to the formation of an oversight committee by the Union Sports Ministry to investigate the matter. Following a Supreme Court intervention, an FIR was filed against Singh and former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar. A comprehensive 1,000-page chargesheet was submitted in June 2023. The court has been recording statements from victims and witnesses over the past two years, although one minor wrestler later withdrew her complaint. Vinesh Phogat, who is also a Congress MLA from Haryana, recently revealed her identity as one of the victims in this ongoing case. Singh has consistently claimed that the allegations are politically motivated.
