The survey indicates that the average out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE) for outpatient care in public health facilities is now zero, reflecting improved access to free essential healthcare services. Furthermore, more than half of patients admitted to government health facilities incurred OOPE of less than βΉ1,100, while the average medical expenditure per hospitalization was βΉ11,285 in 2025. Health-seeking behavior has strengthened, with the projected population reporting ailments (PPRA) nearly doubling since 2017-18, particularly in rural areas, where it rose from 6.8% to 12.2%. The survey also highlights a significant increase in the usage of public health facilities, especially in rural areas, with outpatient care rising from 28% in 2014 to 35% in 2025. Additionally, coverage of government-funded health insurance schemes, such as Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, has surged from 12.9% to 45.5% in rural areas. Improvements in maternal healthcare are evident, with institutional deliveries reaching 95.6% in rural areas and 97.8% in urban areas.
