In response to increasing temperatures, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued an advisory aimed at mitigating the effects of heatwaves. The advisory, part of the Heat Wave Action Plan-2026 developed by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), emphasizes the need for cool drinking water and cooling facilities in various public and work environments. The MCD has instructed all zones and departments to ensure the availability of air-conditioners, air coolers, and fans in offices, schools, and community halls. Additionally, arrangements for shaded areas and the distribution of oral rehydration salts (ORS) kits will be prioritized for sanitation workers and gardeners. Special attention will be given to public spaces, with drinking-water facilities set up in parks and provisions for animals at designated feeding points. The advisory also includes adjustments to the working hours of sanitation staff to ensure their safety during peak heat periods, alongside timely garbage clearance to prevent health hazards. All departments are required to appoint nodal officers to oversee the implementation of these measures and to disseminate heatwave warnings effectively.
