During a recent financial results briefing, Sony's president and CEO Hiroki Totoki revealed that the company has not yet decided on the launch timing or pricing for the PlayStation 6. Ongoing global supply issues and rising costs of components, particularly RAM, are significant factors affecting their strategy. Totoki noted that memory prices are likely to remain high through the 2027 financial year, complicating the pricing strategy for the next generation console. If the PS6 does not launch until 2028, it would be the longest-running PlayStation generation to date. Meanwhile, Sony has faced challenges with PS5 sales, which dropped by 46% year-over-year, selling 1.5 million units in the last quarter ending March 31. Despite this, the gaming division remains profitable, with lifetime PS5 sales reaching 93.7 million units and a 12% rise in operating income, even amid a reported $565 million loss linked to Bungie.
