On May 3, 2023, Punjab Police's Counter Intelligence wing successfully dismantled a narcotics smuggling module in Amritsar, Punjab, India, arresting three suspects: Gurjant Singh, Arvinder Singh, and Jashanpreet Singh, all from Tarn Taran district. The police recovered 12 kg of heroin, which was allegedly transported using a motorcycle. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that Gurjant Singh was in contact with a smuggler based in Pakistan and received heroin consignments delivered by drones. The operation was initiated after police received specific intelligence regarding a significant drug delivery. Police teams set up check posts to intercept the suspects, leading to the recovery of the contraband. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and further investigations are underway to trace the entire smuggling network.
