Political tensions have surged in Punjab, India, following reports that Sandeep Pathak, a Rajya Sabha MP who recently transitioned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been booked by the Punjab Police. BJP leaders, including Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar, accused the AAP government of engaging in political vendetta, claiming that the FIRs are a retaliatory measure against former party members. Pathak, a former professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, stated he is unaware of any FIRs against him. Reports indicate that two FIRs have been lodged against him under non-bailable sections, although police have not officially confirmed this information. The situation escalated after Pathak and six other MPs switched to the BJP on April 24, significantly reducing AAP's representation in the Rajya Sabha from ten to three members. This shift has raised concerns about the AAP's political integrity, as these MPs previously played crucial roles in the party's success in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. The controversy comes on the heels of a raid by the Punjab Pollution Control Board on Trident Limited, where BJP MP Rajinder Gupta serves as chairman emeritus. The BJP has criticized the AAP for alleged double standards, questioning the party's commitment to its principles.
