The case came to light on May 3 when Gopal Sharma from Malan village in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, was assaulted and robbed after being offered a ride. The accused lured Sharma under the pretense of taking him to ISBT Sector-17 but instead drove him to a secluded area in the Sector-53 forest. There, he struck Sharma on the head with a tree branch, stole his wallet containing ₹1,600 (approximately $24 USD), ATM cards, documents, and his mobile phone before fleeing the scene. Following a blind robbery, police utilized local and technical surveillance to identify Arun, leading to his arrest on Thursday. During the arrest, police recovered the victim's belongings and the scooter used in the crime. Arun had a history of targeting single passengers at ISBT and other crowded areas, offering assistance before robbing them.
