Lovepreet Singh, a businessman residing in Kharar, Punjab, has reported receiving a ₹2 crore extortion threat from an individual claiming to be affiliated with the Lawrence gang. The threat came via a voice message on Thursday, where the caller, identifying himself as 'Harry Boxer', demonstrated knowledge of Singh's personal life, including the names of his wife and daughter, and the locations of his offices in Chandigarh. This alarming information heightened the family's fear, prompting Singh to file a complaint with the Chandigarh Police on Friday. Following a preliminary inquiry, the police registered a Zero FIR and transferred the investigation to the Kharar police station. The case has been filed under Section 308(4) (extortion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This incident is reminiscent of a previous case from April 3, where a realtor in Mullanpur faced a similar extortion demand linked to gangster Lucky Patial, indicating a troubling trend of gang-related threats in the area. As of now, no arrests have been made in either case, raising concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in tackling organized crime.
