The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines has unveiled significant reforms for the 2026-2027 school year, impacting over 26 million students, 900,000 teachers, and 45,000 public schools nationwide. Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that these changes aim to enhance learning outcomes and support for educators. Key initiatives include the Three-Term School Calendar, which allows for extended learning periods and better lesson pacing, and the Learning Continuity in Emergencies policy, designed to maintain education during various disruptions such as natural disasters. Furthermore, the updated assessment and grading policies will focus on learner progress and provide meaningful feedback. The Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum will be rolled out, offering more flexible learning options and better preparing students for higher education and employment. Additionally, public school teachers will receive a ₱10,000 teaching allowance under the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act. Angara assured that orientations for the smooth implementation of these reforms have already been conducted nationwide.
