In a significant initiative to modernize technical education, the Gujarat government's Labour, Skill Development and Employment department has launched 11 new courses at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state. These courses, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) Programming Assistant, Drone Pilot, and Solar Technician, aim to align training with the demands of rapidly evolving sectors such as renewable energy, electric mobility, and automation. The introduction of these courses adds 3,312 new seats for trainees across 73 ITIs, including 67 government institutions.
Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya emphasized the importance of these courses in generating employment opportunities for youth and keeping the training ecosystem relevant. Gujarat's renewable energy sector is a key focus, as the state leads India in renewable energy capacity, accounting for 16.5% of the national total. The electric vehicle market is also witnessing rapid growth, with a 75.5% increase in registrations in March 2026 compared to the previous year. This growth highlights the need for skilled technicians, further justifying the introduction of the Mechanic Electric Vehicle course and the provision of 40 electric vehicles for training purposes.
