The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken immediate action following the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl in Cheyyar, located in Tiruvannamalai district, Tamil Nadu. The NCW has requested a detailed action taken report from the police within five days and condemned the assault, highlighting the urgent need for stronger protective measures for minors. The commission chairperson, Vijaya Rahatkar, has directed the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police to ensure the prompt registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police have confirmed that a case has been registered, and three suspects are being questioned as they review CCTV footage to identify the culprits.
