Counting for the 2026 West Bengal elections commenced on May 4, with results expected to significantly influence the state's political landscape. A total of 293 constituencies are being counted, while the result for the Falta constituency in South 24 Parganas will be announced separately on May 24. This election marks the first after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which resulted in the removal of approximately 90.66 lakh to 91 lakh voter names, predominantly from the Muslim-majority Murshidabad district. Despite these changes, voter turnout remained remarkably high, with 92.88% in the first phase and 92.5% in the second phase. Exit polls present a mixed picture; while some suggest the BJP could unseat the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), others predict a TMC victory with estimates ranging from 177-187 seats for the TMC and 95-110 seats for the BJP. In the previous 2021 elections, the TMC won a decisive 213 seats, while the BJP secured 77 seats.
