In the wake of the tragic fire in Vivek Vihar, Delhi, which resulted in nine fatalities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh (approximately $2,400 USD) for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 (approximately $600 USD) for those injured. Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the incident as 'extremely distressing' and emphasized the government's commitment to providing the best medical care for the injured. Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu assured that all necessary medical assistance and relief support would be extended to the affected families. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that all agencies are actively engaged in relief and rescue operations, ensuring continuous monitoring of the situation. Meanwhile, BJP MP Harsh Malhotra visited the site and commended the fire department's prompt response that led to the rescue of around 20 individuals. However, opposition leaders, including AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj and Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, criticized the government for its perceived insensitivity and called for urgent assistance and a high-level investigation into the incident.
