The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Gurugram, Haryana, India, is set to conduct awareness workshops in schools starting Saturday to enhance child safety and legal awareness among students. These workshops will focus on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012, educating children about their legal rights, child protection measures, and the concepts of good touch and bad touch. Additionally, students will learn about cyber safety, complaint mechanisms, and legal safeguards available under the POCSO Act. The initiative, supervised by Narender Sura (district and sessions judge) and Nisha (chief judicial magistrate), aims to empower children to recognize and report inappropriate behavior without fear. Experts involved in the campaign emphasize the importance of sensitization, noting that many children hesitate to report abuse due to confusion or fear. By fostering an environment of awareness, the DLSA intends to equip students with the confidence to seek help from trusted adults or authorities when faced with harassment or bullying. Periodic camps will also be organized in schools and rural areas as part of a broader outreach effort to strengthen child protection and legal literacy.
