India has formally requested that Canada take decisive action against anti-India extremist elements, particularly Khalistani separatists, following a report by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). The report, released last week, highlights the ongoing threat these groups pose not only to India but also to Canadian interests. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that Canada-based Khalistani extremists engage in violent activities and threaten Indian diplomats, which India has consistently condemned. Jaiswal pointed out that these extremists misuse Canada's democratic freedoms to promote violence and fund illegal activities. The relationship between India and Canada has been strained over these issues, especially during the previous administration of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Following the election of Prime Minister Mark Carney, both nations have sought to strengthen ties and enhance security cooperation. In response to the CSIS report's mention of India among alleged foreign interference actors, Jaiswal categorically rejected these claims, asserting that India respects the sovereignty of other nations and does not interfere in their internal matters.
